Boys Lacrosse Splits First Two Home Games

In its home opener, on Monday, April 4, the boys lacrosse team hosted Westerville as Academy’s young talent was on full display in a 13-8 victory. Freshmen Malcolm Klingbeil and David Barren combined for 7 goals as the Vikes rolled to their first win of the season. Academy’s defense, spearheaded by senior captain, Jamie Barren, was also crucial in the win. The Vikings, fresh off a great performance, looked to ride the momentum into their next game.

On Wednesday, April 6, Academy played at home against Granville. Despite a dominant performance by senior captain, Otis Klingbeil, who scored 6 goals, the Blue Aces escaped with a 9-8 victory after a last-minute goal. Freshman defender, Greyson Noblitt, said, “Obviously this one stings. To lose such a competitive game in the final seconds is really tough.”

The Vikes, although disappointed with the loss, also saw the game as a stepping stone to success down the road. “As hard as it is to see, we have to realize there were still positives within that game,” Noblitt said. “I think the main thing that will help us from that loss is that our younger guys now know how to handle high-pressure situations, and we will improve in protecting leads.”

The team looks to get back to its winning ways when it travels to Gahanna Lincoln on Monday, April 11.
