It was a roller coaster of a first week for the Academy girls lacrosse team. On Tuesday, March 29, the girls dominated rival Bexley in a 15-4 victory. The defending state champs, a title that typically scares away any opponent, were confident heading into the state final rematch against Chagrin Falls on Saturday, April 4.
Academy’s fierce talent, however, was not enough to stop Chagrin Falls, starving for revenge. The girls failed to replicate their miraculous state final comeback in the 10-7 loss, despite battling through blistering winds and a chilling rain.
The outcome of this loss, nevertheless, was far more significant than a score. It established a greater tension between the teams and a rivalry that CA fans will hopefully see unfold in this year’s state tournament.
