Denny Hammond, a former teacher and coach at Reynoldsburg is Academy’s new cross-country coach. Captain Andrew Heermann’16 says, “He is tough and experienced and knows what he is doing.”

The boys team is led by captains Atticus Lee’16, Otis Klingbeil’16, and Heermann. The girls team is led by captains Eleanor Rackoff’16 and Cobi Warstler’16.

“We had a hard fought season last year, but we didn’t graduate any of our top 7 guys,” says Grayson Mick’17. “This year, we are more equipped to make it to states, and we really want to make an impression.”

The boys team finished 6th in regionals last year, just two spots away from making it to states, while the girls advanced to states.

The team had a strong start this season at the Newark Catholic Invitational on Saturday, August 29, at Bryn Du Mansion. The girls team placed 6th overall with a score of 210, and the boys team had an impressive 2nd place finish with 118 points!
