Apple’s More Diverse Emojis

Although the current Apple emoji keyboard includes same-sex couples, the figures lack any diverse skin tones. An Asian man sports traditional Chinese clothing, and an Indian wears a turban. But both are light-skinned.

Apple’s diversification of its keyboard resulted from last March’s public outcry on the petition, “,” which gathered thousands of signatures and even drew the attention of  Miley Cyrus, whose tweet made the protest go viral.

Apple pledged to release a number new emojis. Tapping and holding onto the emoji will expand the key and allow access to various skin-tones and claims some 300 new emojis will be available on its iOS 8.3 release later this year.
