Central Ohio High School Sports News: High school Freshman a Buckeye

Many people aspire to commit to a college of their dreams for a sport they love, but can you imagine committing and knowing where you were going to school as a freshman?

This is what 14-year-old Dane Goodwin of Upper Arlington has just accomplished. Goodwin will be attending the Ohio State University in 2018 to play basketball for Thad Matta and the Buckeyes.

The 6-foot-4 shooting guard accepted the offer to play four days before his first-ever high school game. He is the earliest player to commit to OSU since B.J. Mullens in 2004. Goodwin has also been recruited by  Notre Dame, Davidson, and Dayton, but he decided to play at OSU based on the coaches he met and on the offer he received.

Offering a scholarship to a freshman in high-school is risky business, but after seeing Goodwin score 35 points in a game for his school, coach Thad Matta believed in his decision to recruit this prospect.

Watch out for Dane Goodwin in future years as an Ohio State Buckeye!
