Project Linus

Columbus Academy’s 3rd annual hosting of the MLK “Project Linus blanket making event” completed 160 fleece blankets that will be sent to local shelters, including Homeless Families Foundation and to patients at local hospitals, including Nationwide Children’s Hospital. With the combined help of CA students and  Latin students from Wellington, Brookwood Academy, and Granville, nearly 100 people prepared blankets on Monday, January 20th, in our dining hall. Various quilt squares were colored and fleece fabric was cut to prepare for the lower school’s Project Linus Valentine’s Day project and the Latin OJCL convention.

CA faculty member Sarah Hansen and students Emily Chen, Chloe Bradburn, and Nida Pervez spearheaded and thoroughly worked on the project and even organized the pizza lunch following the event with the guidance of Service Board vice president, Annie Mampieri.  Faculty and staff  members Beth Downing, Kristen Oeth, Matt Ely, Franz Gruber, Dorothy Dell, and Service Board head, Christy Bening, also helped out.

Spending a day to help serve the central Ohio community is an event that properly honors the message of Dr. King. On such a momentous day in our history, this annual project is something that needs to be preserved for many years to come.
