Taking the mat on Thursday, January 24, Columbus Academy’s wrestling team held its Senior Night in honor of sole senior, Johnston Allinder. Consisting of just one senior and two juniors of the 13 wrestlers, the team certainly is young.
While this is true, Coach Bukky asserted that two years ago only three people were on the entire team, so progress has been made. Coach Bukky says, “It would’ve been easy for the school to give up on the wrestling program. But with the leadership of Johnston and Jeremy and Dan, we have a good unit this year.
Coach Bukky noted Allinder’s critical role in developing the team from where it was two years ago into the team representing our school at the meet today. Johnston was “integral to” this change.
Although the wrestling team ultimately fell to St. Charles in the meet following Senior Night, Allinder, Dan Jones’15, Tim Leathery’15, Sam Wittmann’15, and Calvin Wuorinen’16 all triumphed against opponents.
At New Lexington High School at 9:00 am on Saturday, January 26th, Dan Jones placed 4th.
