Girls Cross Country at States

On Saturday, November 3, the Academy girls cross country team finished its strong season in 15th place at States. Because of the group’s camaraderie and determination, it is no surprise most of the runners exceeded expectations in their season’s final meet.

Sarah Lazarus, a senior captain, said, “We are a super close team. Also, we have a coach who cares so much about us, and that adds to the positive chemistry. I definitely think it’s easier to give your best in a race when you know you’re doing it for your team.”

Individually, Abby Wilson’15 ran a personal best in 19:17.27, placing her 26th out of 141 in Division III, and Susan Peck’14 completed the course in 19:41.16, placing her 47th. Elizabeth Falkenberg’15, who could not race due to injuries, made “Go Vikes!” shirts before the meet and wrote notes to pump up her teammates.

The combination of bonding and speed made this team virtually unstoppable. With the majority of its members returning next year, the girls cross country team will be back stronger than ever.
