After Tailgate: Football’s First Home Game

The Academy football team shouldered a tough loss against opponent Hartley, last Friday, August 31th, falling 42-7 in its home opener at Marsh Field. Struggling in the first two quarters, the Vikings remained scoreless while the Hawks pushed ahead with four touchdowns. After halftime, however, the team rallied to deliver a strong performance for the rest of the game, holding off Hartley and racking up a touchdown and kick of its own.

Concluding the game on a strong note, quarterback Hart Wise’13 teamed up with receiver Ben Dahl’15 in a 73 yard pass play to put the team on the board. Senior John Michael Long finished off the impressive play with the extra point.

Coach Jim Collis reflected on the game and looked on to this upcoming week: “We lack size and total number of players. Even though we lost Friday, the players gave great effort, and I expect the same the rest of the season.”

Coming up this Friday, September 7th, the Vikings will attempt to brave the Braves, who are 1-1-0, away at Whitehall’s stadium.
