Lady Vikes Volleyball

Led by Coach Amanda Roehrenbeck, the Lady Viking volleyball squad started off the season with an ace, winning its home opener Tuesday, August 27, against Village Academy. After last season’s injuries and disappointing turn-outs, the team is eager for a new beginning. In addition to working hard during preseason, many players got on the court in the winter and spring months through club programs in an effort to improve their skills. Improve they did, and the results are already showing.

Addison Anders’14, one of many returning players, discusses Tuesday’s victory. “It was a great game. We played better and better every set, and we actually had a student section, which was nice. I think that it was a great start to the season, and I think we will win some more games.”

Winning three consecutive sets, 25-18, 25-12, and 25-10, the Vikings did not even allow the Griffins an opportunity to strike back.

The team continued the week with two losses, one against Whitehall-Yearling on Wednesday, August 28th, and the other against Newark Catholic on Thursday, August 29th.

To bounce back for another busy triad of games, the team is focussing in on its weaknesses. Anders continues, “Our biggest strength is net play right now. We have a lot of really good hitters and blockers. Our weakness is talking, but we’re working on it.”

The Vikings will compete at Licking Valley against the Panthers on Tuesday, September 4th, followed by a game at Reynoldsburg on September 5th, and a home match starting at 6:00 versus Heath on Thursday, September 6th.
